My Favourite Things

My favourite genres of music can consist of heavy melodic rock to soft acoustic. My preference for music doesn't really lean on what the genre is but more of what the song is. For example, I may like a song in a certain genre like metal hardcore, but that doesn't mean I enjoy all the songs classified in that genre. This fact applies for almost every genre I like. So when people ask me what genre of music I like, my proper response should probably be, "depends on what song it is." My favourite bands that I listen to, and when I say favourite bands I mean I like most if not all of their songs, are as follows:
  • Billy Talent
  • Alexisonfire
  • Cancer Bats
  • City and Color
  • Blink 182
  • Limp Bizkit
  • Metric
  • Modest Mouse
  • The Smashing Pumpkins
  • The All-American Rejects
  • Tool
  • Wolfmother
  • MGMT
  • Good Charlotte
  • No Bragging Rights
  • Queens of the Stone Age
  • Rage Against the Machine
  • Sum 41
  • Relient K
  • Atreyu
  • Protest the Hero
  • The Holly Springs Disaster
  • Fame
  • Method
  • KISS

There are probably a few more that I can't remember at the moment but those are the main ones that come to mind. There are also a ton of bands that have maybe one or two songs that I like but the rest I don't like. Those bands are not included in my list. As for the bands on the list, there are some where I don't like all their albums but maybe just one or two. So my taste of music is very spread and diverse in this way. I use this music as a way for me to block out the rest of the world sometimes, to concentrate on a specific task that might otherwise be interupted by any other sounds, when I want to convey the way I feel without actually expressing them physically or verbally, or sometimes I just like to sit and listen to music while I reminise about memories of the day or long ago.

What is music?

To me, music is a sound, that when I listen to it, I like. In general, music is classifyed as a sound mixed with rythms, tempos that makes a person feel good. Music can be very diffrent for everyone. I like music created by such artists/groups such as Queens of the Stone Age, Billy Talent, No Bragging Rights, Cancer Bats, Tool, Rage Against the Machine, Alexisonfire, POD, Limp Biscuit, Blink-182 and other various artists/groups. These musicians create a kind of sound that appeals to my emotional side and my logical side because of the techinicality and the passion these artists put into their music. When I say these artists appeal to my emotional side I don't mean that they all appeal to every emotion. If say I felt like thinking about something while I was in a mood that I wasn't angry but I wasn't happy either I might listen to No Bragging Rights for their strong sturdy instrumental sound but with very melodic vocals. If maybe I was feeling kind of sad or angry, I would listen to Billy Talent because some of their stuff can be very slow and melodic but other stuff can be harsh and fast. These artists appeal to my emotions, but that may not be the case for other people. there are plenty of people out there who might just say, "It's just stupid emo screamo stuff." This is just an opinion. It is only a true to the person who says it and cannot be frowned upon.
